In 2007, I moved away from my hometown of Fresno, California to beautiful San Francisco. At that time in my life, I had no idea what I wanted to do, and was pretty lost in my identity. I only knew that I loved to cook, was pretty good at it, and fantasized about becoming the next Barefoot Contessa. Those were the glory days of the Food Network, so no judging. Ina, I love you.
I enrolled myself at Le Cordon Bleu and over the course of the next couple of years learned the basics of really good cooking and baking. It was such a crucial, enchanting part of my life so far. If a movie about my life is ever made, the culinary school part will be highlighted with some awesome musical montage. In my head there’s a “Small Town Girl Makin’ it in the Big City” boppy sort of song. I don’t know. I’m open to suggestions.
In addition to a great education, I also picked up my amazing husband, Brandon, there at the CCA. We made out in the walk-ins a few times. Here we are caught somewhat off guard by a fellow student snapping random photos. At this point we were already hope
lessly in love, but trying desperately (and failing) to hide it from our classmates. Oh, the awkward.
You might think that as the proud owner of a bright and shiny culinary degree, I’m all about pretentious, small-portioned, everything-is-topped-with-foam, sort of food. While I enjoy that (or used to before my children came into the picture), the truth is, there is nothing I love more than comfort food. Stick-to-your-ribs, warm and gooey, whole house smells like love kind of food. Now that I’m a mom, I wouldn’t even have time for all the fancy schmancy stuff anyway.
Here is where I’ll be posting my favorite meals for you to try and enjoy as much as I and my little family do.
